Fire Prevention Awards

On Nov 26 th , the County fire prevention winners were acknowledged in Laurel Delaware for the 2019 Fire Prevention Poster/Essay contests. Station 85 was very proud to have 5 students place in the top three for the award ceremony this year. K - McKinley Adams, 3rd overall in County and 1st place award for Milton Elementary 2nd Grade - Fiona Fisher, 3rd overall in County and 1st place award for Milton Elementary 5th Grade - Ashley Preston, 1st place in County and 1st place award for H.O. Brittingham 7th Grade - Charlotte Bjorklund, 2nd place in County and 1st place award for Mariner Middle 8th Grade - Alexandra Cleaver, 2nd place in County and 1stplace award for Mariner Middle We want to thank Milton Elementary, H.O. Brittingham, Delmarva Christian@Eagles Nest and Mariner Middle for allowing their students to participate each year in this state wide program. Congratulations to all the winners!! We will hold an awards ceremony in January 2020 to recognize the top 3 winners for each grade from each school.

Annual Milton Christmas Parade

Here are some pictures from the Milton Christmas Parade. The town was pretty busy Wednesday night. We would like to thank everyone who participated in, or viewed the parade. We hope everyone had a great time. We look forward to hosting the parade again next year. Shout out to Jeff Davidson and Lisa Justice for the pictures.

Minor MVC

December 01, 2019

Tonight, units from Station 85 responded to a minor vehicle accident on Gravel Hill Rd., north of Rt. 16. Crews arrived to find a vehicle that had exited the roadway and struck a pole. Ambulance 85 and Medic 101 treated a single patient on scene who subsequently refused transport to the ER. The crew from the Engine-Tanker and Rescue secured the vehicle and stood by until the arrival of Delaware Electric. Deputy Chief Hopkins had 85 Command. Units responding, 85-2, Rescue 85, 85-4, B-85, 85-8, 85-15, Medic 101, Milton PD, DSP, DSFP.

MVC with Injuries

November 28, 2019

Just after returning to the Milton local from a coverup in Georgetown, Engine-Tanker 85-2 along with the rest of the department were alerted for a MVC on Cedar Creek Rd. in the area of Jefferson Crossroads. 85-18, who was in the area arrived to find a single vehicle off the roadway with a single occupant refusing to exit the vehicle for the Trooper who was already on scene. Engine-Tanker 2 arrived a minute later and was tasked with "popping" the driver door to allow access to the occupant. Once this was completed, Troopers made access to the vehicle and placed the subject in custody. No injuries were reported. 85 units cleared and turned the scene over to DSP. Asst. Chief Reynolds had 85 Command.

Brush Fire

November 27, 2019

At 1622 hours, Station 85 was alerted for a Brush fire on Coastal Hwy in the area of Deep Branch Rd. Asst. Chief Reynolds arrived on scene to find a small trash pile on fire that had extended into the woods. EMS Chief Aydelotte was on location holding the fire in check with a garden hose while awaiting responding units. The crew from Brush 85 and Engine 4 mopped up the area extinguishing all hot spots. Engine Tanker 2 stood by for additional water supply if needed. Asst. Chief Reynolds had 85 Command.

Camper Fire

November 24, 2019

This morning around 10:15 Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85, Sta. 82 (Lewes), Sta. 77 (Georgetown), Sta. 91, and SCEMS for a trailer fire in Cool Springs Farms. While responding Sussex advised possibly a camper fire. 828 arrived and confirmed the report and advised exposure on the B side of the camper. 852 arrived first and put two lines in service, began knocking the fire, and shortly after bringing the incident under control. Assistant Chief Reynolds commanded the incident

Vehicle Accident

November 24, 2019

11/24/19 Sta. 85 responded to a vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer. Units arrived to find a tractor trailer on its side. Luckily there were no injuries. The roadway was closed for an extended amount of time.

Structural Evolutions with Station 80

Tonight, members from Milton were invited to the Fire School in Georgetown by Indian River to participate in structural firefighting evolutions. Indian River invited Milton as both companies share response areas and are due in each others local. This training gives each company a chance to work with the other in a training environment, so we can be more efficient on a real fire scene. Thank you again Indian River for the invite.

Standby for 5 K Race

November 17, 2019

Today, crews manned the brush truck and command unit and assisted the Fire Police with traffic control for a 5 K race that was being run in the town limits.

EMS Request Fire Dept. for a Possible CO

November 17, 2019

Crews responded at the request of the EMS unit and confirmed no CO in the residence. Firefighter B. Millman had 85 Command.

Cape Field Hockey, State Champions

November 16, 2019

Today, the Cape Lady Viking Field Hockey team won the State Championship. It has become a Cape tradition that the three local fire departments to the Cape district (Lewes, Milton, and Rehoboth) escorted the Champions back in to town after the win. Way to go girls.

Soup Donation
