Chief Hopkins Sworn in as 2nd VP of the County Chiefs

Tonight, Chief Hopkins was sworn in as the 2nd Vice President of the Sussex County Chiefs Association. Johnny will use his experience and knowledge to effect the fire service throughout the State and County. Congratulations Chief.

Assist 82 Structure Fire

September 26, 2021

This morning Milton crews assisted Station 82, Lewes on a working townhome fire. Deputy 82 arrived to find a three story townhome with smoke showing from the roof area. Engine 82-2 and Ladder-82 were the first arriving units and stretched a line to begin fire attack. Engine 85-4 and 85-2 worked in the bravo one exposure doing various duties, while Truck-85 operated on the charlie side of the building opening the roof. Crews worked for approximately two hours before returning to service.

Fire Alarm from the Standby

September 25, 2021

At 2109 hours, while standing by at Clayton, Kent County 911 alerted Smyrna (44), Clayton (45) and Engine Co. 85 for a high life hazard fire alarm at the Smyrna High School on Duck Creek Parkway in Smyrna. Engine Co. 85 arrived at 2112 assuming the first due engine assignment with our own hydrant with nothing evident on the alpha and delta side. Crews from Engine Co. 85, 44, and 45 investigated a pull station activation. Crews found a malfunctioning pull station and Command 44 held the assignment to Engine Co. 45. Milton crews returned to Station 45 to finish the cover assignment. Units responding Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engines 44-2 and 44-2, Ladder 44, Squad 45, 44-9. 44-17 had the Command.

Engine-Tanker Stands By at Clayton

MVC with Injuries

September 23, 2021

At 1113 hours, Sussex County EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a vehicle accident involving a dump truck at the corner of Cool Spring Rd. & Stockley Rd. Engine Tanker 85-2 arrived to find a two vehicle accident with no entrapment. Crews from Engine Tanker 2 and the Rescue stabilized and secured the vehicles while the EMS crew treated and transported a single patient. Chief Hopkins had Command.

Mary Ann Warrington, Ladies Aux. President Recognized

On September 22, 2021 at a meeting of the Auxiliary of the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighters Association, Mary Ann Warrington was recognized as the outgoing President having served in 2020 and 2021. She was recognized by several members of Milton's Ladies Auxiliary in attendance that included her sister-in-law Jeany Argo and her two nieces, Amy Jones and Stephanie Larson. Her Brother, Chief Engineer Sam Argo, presented a clock plaque on behalf of all the members of Milton Fire Department, Inc & the Ladies Auxiliary. Mary Ann is the current President of the Milton Fire Department, Inc. Ladies Auxiliary. Mary Ann spoke of the challenges she has faced during the two year term, and thanked all those that helped her to log a very successful term. She went on to state that the most difficult obstacles were continuing operations throughout the pandemic, and the sadness that all had to endure in the loss of so many that succumbed to the coronavirus. Mary Ann will now serve as a Director of the Auxiliary of the SCVFA along with her regular duties of Auxiliary President at Milton.

Dog Days of Summer Event

MVC w/Entrapment

September 14, 2021

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, just after the 6 o’clock hour, Station 85 along with Sussex County EMS and Delaware State Police helicopter was dispatched for a serious motor vehicle accident on Cave Neck Rd. in the area of Front St. 85-8 responded and was advised of a single vehicle, with roll over, with confirmed entrapment. 85-8 immediately requested an additional rescue company from Lewes Fire Dept. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived within minutes and began extrication. A single patient was extricated in 12 minutes and transferred to EMS for transport. Crews remained on scene for a short time securing the area and assisting various police agencies. Units responding 85-2, 85-5, 85-00, 85-8, Rescue 85, A-85, 82-5, 82-9, Rescue 82, Fire Police, Milton PD, DSP.

Second Emergency, MVC

September 12, 2021

Just after the 6 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a second emergency for a MVC at the intersection of Harbeson Rd. & Martin Farm Rd. 85-8, responding to a box assignment in Lewes diverted to the MVC, arriving in minutes to find a two vehicle accident with three patients. Asst. Chief Millman immediately established command and requested an additional ambulance from Sta. 82. Crew from A-85 transported two patients to Beebe while Ambulance 82 obtained a refusal. Crews from 85-5, 85-2, 85-00, and Rescue 85 secured the vehicles, and cleaned the roadway. Fire Police attended to traffic.

Sunday Morning MVC

September 12, 2021

Just after the 8 o’clock hour, Station 85 crews were alerted for a second emergency in the district for a vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Coastal Hwy & Broadkill Rd. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded in under a minute and arrived a short time later to find a 2 vehicle accident with everyone out of the vehicle. Crews secured both vehicles and ambulances from Milton and Lewes Fire Department transported a total of four patients to Bayhealth Sussex in Milford. DSP is investigating and DelDot assisted with traffic. Chief Hopkins had the Command.

Red, White & Blue Event

Tonight Ladder 85 participated in the “Run White & Blue” event at Del-Tech in Georgetown. We provided our ladder along with Station 77, Georgetown to display the American Flag. Thank you Lisa Fensick for the photos.

Hose Testing, Waterflow Training

September 04, 2021

Great time tonight flowing water with the crews from Milton Fire Department. Chief Hopkins and his guys got together on a holiday weekend to flow water and talk about pump and hose operations. Milton Station 85 recently purchased Snap-tite Ponn Supreme attack lines and supply line for all of their apparatus. Good things coming in the future with Milton Fire Department Inc. Sta. 85 and Atlantic Emergency Solutions.
