Vehicle Fire

May 02, 2021

Just after the eight o'clock hour, Station 85 was dispatched for a vehicle fire ITAO Jefferson Crossroads. 85-8 responded with Chief Hopkins immediately after dispatch. While responding station 75 advised they had a crew available, in station if needed. Chief Hopkins advised them to respond to the scene with an engine. 85-8 arrived to find a single vehicle fully involved. Engine 85-4 arrived shortly after 85-8 and placed the front bumper line in-service to extinguish the fire. Engine 75-3 arrived seconds later and deployed their front bumper line to assist 85-4's crew with extinguishment. Shortly after command placed the scene under control and returned all units. Chief Hopkins commanded the incident. Units responding, Engines 4 and 5, Engine 75-3, Rescue 85, 85-8, B-85, DSP, DSFP. This alarm was a great example of neighboring departments working together and utilizing available manpower to serve the best interest of the public regardless of "district boundaries".

Commercial Fire

Duty Crew Training

Tonight, members of the duty crew staffed two units and a Duty Officer from the station. Members trained on vehicle rescue operations.

Vehicle Accident involving Motorcycle

April 28, 2021

Just prior to the two o'clock hour on April 28th Station 85, SCEMS, and DT2 for an MVC involving a motorcycle at Cave Neck Rd & Hudson Rd. 85-18 (Assistant Chief Millman) arrived and passed the command to the duty officer. 85-5 arrived and assisted with debris cleanup and patient care. DT2 was placed in-service. A-85 transported on patient to BMC. Command placed the scene under control and returned all units.

Assist Lewes with a Control Burn

Today, members from Milton assisted the Lewes Fire Department and the Forestry Service with a prescribed control burn of marsh along the Cedar St. area of Lewes Beach.

HazMat Incident

April 20, 2021

Just prior to 1730 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a hazmat incident in the Food Lion Shopping Center on Broadkill Rd. 85-8 arrived shortly after dispatch with Captain Millman as the commanding officer, to find a large area of grease and oil throughout the parking lot. Captain Millman immediately requested a response from DNREC to assist with the incident. Upon further investigation, it was found that one of the grease / waste oil traps for the shopping center had overflowed. Crews used stay dry to assist with absorbing the grease. Crews closed the parking area down until the arrival of DNREC. Units responding, 85-8, A-85, Rescue 85, Engine 5, 85-00, DSFP, Milton PD, DNREC.

Duty Crew Training

April 16, 2021

Tonight, members held a duty crew at the Station. Crew members trained on search and rescue operations. During training, crews also responded to a Lewes box that was quickly put under control.

MVC with Entrapment

April 15, 2021

Just after shift change, crews from Station 85 were alerted for a MVC on Sand Hill Rd. in the area of Tobacco Rd. Ambulance 85 and 85-8 with Captain Millman responded shortly after dispatch. A-85 arrived on scene to find a two vehicle MVC with four patients, one who was ALS. A-85 immediately requested a medic unit to assist. Hearing the report from A-85, Captain Millman immediately requested an additional BLS ambulance to assist. 85-8 arrived shortly after to confirm a two vehicle MVC with a "cut job" in one of the vehicles. Engine 5 arrived next and made quick work of the extrication. 85-00 and Rescue 85 also assisted on scene. A-85 and B-85 both transported patients and B-93 (Georgetown EMS) obtained two refusals. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, 85-00, A-85, B-85, B-93, Medic 111, Medic 208, DSP, DSFP, MPD.

MVC with Injuries

April 14, 2021

Just before 2300, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a MVC on Route 9 in the area of Hunters Mill Estates. Lt. Matt Cranford, who lives in the area, arrived on scene to find a two vehicle MVC with multiple patients. 85-8 arrived next with Asst. Chief Millman and requested an additional BLS unit from Lewes. Engine 5, Rescue 85, and 85-00 all arrived and assisted with patient care, secured both vehicles, and provided traffic control. Ambulance A-85 transported two patients and Ambulance 82 (Lewes) transported one patient. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, 85-00, Rescue 85, A-85, D-82, DSP, DSFP.

Fire Prevention Essay / Poster Awards

On March 28, the Milton Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary recognized the 2020 Fire Prevention Poster/Essay award winners. Although COVID-19 made it harder to reach out to our students, we had some great posters and essays submitted!! Thank you to everyone that participated and we hope to return to our regular program in the Fall. Our winners for the 2020 program were Gordon DePutla, Cam Kilby, Edward Jones, Alexandra Olson, Lily Stuckey, Evie Hogan, Ava Webb, Maggie Minto, Mason Furman, Luna Majjul and Gabriela Majjul. Both Maggie Minto and Mason Furman placed 3rd (for their grade level) for Sussex County. Congratulations to all!

Residential Fire

March 20, 2021

Milton crews assisted Station 82 Lewes with this house fire. Crew arrived and assisted 82 with fire suppression and overhaul. 85-4's crew completed a search on the second floor with negative findings, and also put water on the fire in the second floor bedroom. Truck-85's crew provided a RIT team throughput the incident. Milton units worked for approximately 2 hours.
