Donation

September 23, 2020

Today, the store managers from the Milton Food Lion showed up unnanounced at the station. After yesterdays fire, they thought it fitting to make a donation to the fire department. 100 cases of drinks were donated. This will be greatly appreciated and definitely replenishes our supply after yesterdays major fire. Thanks again to manager John Midash and asst. manager Thom Ludwig and the Milton Food Lion for the generous donation. It is greaty appreciated.

Multi Residential Structure Fire

September 22, 2020

Today, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Ellendale (75), Lewes (82) Memorial EMS (89), and Sussex County EMS for a multi-residental structure fire at 105 Federal St. in Milton. Chief Harvey who was working next door arrived as the call was being dispatched to find a working apartment fire in a "taxpayer" style building, and assisted the occupants of the fire apartment out to safety once the occupants were safely outside, Chief Harvey assumed command and, with the assistance of other Milton Police Officers, began the orderly evacuation of the retail stores and other apartments in the building. Engine 85-4 and Ladder 85 arrived and engine 4 deployed a ground ladder and handline to the "d" side to begin extinguishment. Crews from Ellendale and Lewes arrived and assisted with searches and extinguishment. Ladder 85s master stream was used on areas of the roof deemed unstable for crews to operate on. Station 77 was alerted to assist and responded with an engine and ladder as well. Crews remained on scene for two hours assisting the fire marshall as needed.

Vehicle Accident

September 13, 2020

This morning just prior to the eight o’clock hour Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85, SCEMS, and Delaware Trooper 2 for a vehicle accident with rollover at Costal Hwy & Deep Branch Rd. Lewes Fire Chief 82-15 was in the area and arrived and advised there was no need for Delaware Trooper 2. 858 and 852 arrived and began debris clean up and assisted with patient care. A-85 and E-82 transported a total of four patients to BMC. Units cleared a short time later. FF B. Millman who was in duty officer training with Deputy Chief Hopkins commanded the incident.

Transformer Fire

September 09, 2020

At 1925, Station 85 was alerted for a transformer fire on Martin Farm Rd. in the area of Hunter Lane. Units arrived to find a small fire that was not threatening anything. Crews remained on scene a short time securing the area until the arrival of the electric company. Deputy Chief Hopkins had 85 Command. Units responding, 85-8, ET 85-2, A-85, DSFP.

Electrical Hazard with Wires Down

September 08, 2020

At 1732, Station 85 was alerted for wires down on Stockley Rd. and Cool Spring Rd. Deputy Chief Hopkins responded in 85-8 and was advised that a combine had come in contact with wires and pulled them down. Chief Hopkins arrived to find wires and a pole down in the roadway and the combine clear from the wires in the field. 85 units provided traffic control until the arrival of Delaware Electric. Units responding Engine-Tanker 85-2, Rescue 85, 85-8, A-85, DSFP.

Structure Fire Downgraded to a Bon Fire

September 07, 2020

At 1948 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85, Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77), Georgetown EMS (93), and Sussex County EMS for a structure on Gravel Hill Rd. across from Tracks End Lane, in the area of Wyoming Millwork. As crews began responding, they were advised this was possibly now a control burn. Firefighter Bailey Millman (who was in duty officer training with Deputy Chief Hopkins) arrived on scene a short time later and confirmed a large brush pile on fire, and assumed Command. Command scaled the response back to Engine-Taker 85-2, Engine 4, and Tanker 85. Crews extinguished the fire and advised the property owner of the proper procedure for bon fires. Units responding, ET 85-2, E 85-4, E 85-5, Tanker 85, 85-8, 85-15, DSFP, Medic 108, E 75-3.

MVC with Entrapment

September 03, 2020

While responding to an AFA in Harbeson, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a second emergency, along with Sussex County EMS for a MVC on Coastal Hwy & Paynter Rd. Engine-Tanker 85-2 was arriving at the AFA, they made quick work of that and responded along with Rescue 85 to the MVC. Crews arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with one patient confined to the vehicle requiring a door pop. Crews removed the door and EMS crews transported the patient to Beebe. Carlisle (A-42) was returning from Beebe, also transported a patient to Beebe. Units cleared a short time later. Units responding Engine-Tanker 2, Rescue 85, A-85, A-42, Medic 101, DSFP, DSP.

Dumpster Fire

September 01, 2020

Just after 0100, Station 85 was alerted for a dumpster on fire in the area of 9184 Shore Dr. in Primehook Beach. Crews arrived to find a "roll off" style construction dumpster well involved with exposure to a home. Crews from Engine 4 split, deploying the booster line to extinghish the dumpster, and assessing the nearby home for extension. Crews from Engine 5 and A-85 assisted on the fireground as needed. Deputy 85 had Command. Units responding, Engines 4, 5, A-85, DSFP.

Outside Fire

September 01, 2020

Just after the nine o'clock hour, Station 85 was alerted for an outside fire on Round Pole Bridge Rd. in the area of Hudson Rd. Deputy Chief Hopkins (who was in the area) responded to the scene to find a large pile of tree limbs being burned by the property owner. Due to the burn ban, and possible health related complaints from neighbors in the area due to blowing smoke, Deputy Chief Hopkins advised the property owner that the fire would be extinguished. Engine 85-4 arrived a short time later and deployed the "front bumper turret" and extinguished the fire. Crews remained inservice for approx. 30 minutes. Units responding Engine 4, Engine - Tanker 2, A-85, DSFP.

MVC with Injuries

September 01, 2020

At 1041, Station 85 was alerted for a MVC on Lewes-Georgetown Hwy. in the area of Classic Auto. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived on scene to find a two vehicle MVC with a single patient. Crews from Engine-Tanker 2 and Rescue 85 secured the vehicles while A-85 transported one patient to Beebe. Deputy Chief Hopkins had 85 Command. Units respnding Engine-Tanker 2, Rescue 85, A-85, DSP, DSFP.

MVC with Injuries

September 01, 2020

Just as units were clearing from the Harbeson MVC, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 and ambulance 82 (Lewes) for another MVC, this time at the intersection of Coastal Hwy. & Broadkill Rd. Units arrived to find a minor MVC with one patient. Ambulance E-82 transported one patient to Beebe. Fire crews secured both vehicles, completed debris clean up, and returned. Deputy Chief Hopkins had 85 Command. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 2, Rescue 85, Brush 85-00, E-82, DSP, DSFP, Milton Pd.

Minor MVC

September 01, 2020

At 1513 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for the sixth time today, this time for a minor MVC at the intersection of Federal St. & Mulberry St. Past Asst. Chief Millman (who lives in the area) arrived on scene shortly after dispatch to find a two vehicle MVC with two patients and assumed Command. Command requested an additional BLS unit from Ellendale (75). Crews secured both vehicle and assisted with patient care. Both patients were transported to Beebe Medical Center. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Rescue 85, A-85, B-75, DSFP, Milton Pd.

Annual Fire Co. Banquet

August 22, 2020

Due to the COVID crisis, Milton is holding their banquet a little later than normal this year. Members attended tonights banquet with several members receiving awards for years of service and top responder. Thanks to Camden "Squad 41" for covering the district so our members could enjoy the evening.
