Lifesaving Award

On December 7, 2020, the Milton Police Department had the honor and privilege of presenting the Lifesaving Award to Randall Preston at the Milton Town Council Meeting. Chief Derrick Harvey of the Milton Police Department and the Milton Fire Department, addressed the heroic actions of Mr. Preston who selflessly and without hesitation responded to a cry for help. Mr. Preston was outside of his residence when he heard the cry and then observed a capsized kayak. He instantly responded to the capsized boater in the frigid cold water and brought him safely to the shore. Once on shore the boater was transported into the Milton Fire Department ambulance for treatment.

Milton units handled a MVC on Boradkill Rd in the area of the Cheer Center. Ambulance B-85 transported two patients to BMC. Deputy Chief Hopkins commanded the incident.

Yesterday at 15:16 hours Milton units were dispatched for an MVC at Reynolds Pond Rd & Isaacs Rd. Units arrived to find two vehciles off the roadway with an unknown substance spilled in the grass. 85 command requested DNREC to respond along with Hazmat-83 for the 150 gallons of asphalt sealer that was spilled. One patient was transported to BMC. All units cleared. B-85, 85-4, R-85, DNREC, Hazmat-83, DSFP, MPR, DSP all made the repsonse.

Property Damage MVC turns into a MVC with Entrapment

September 27, 2020

While returning from an automatic fire alarm, the Sussex EOC advised Milton units of a property damage accident ITAO Union Street Ext & Williams Farm Rd. Engine-Tanker 85-2 was flagged down by a civilian who advised someone was in need of medical attention. 85-2 and Ladder-85 investigated and found a vehicle on its side with one patient trapped in the vehicle. Crews made quick work extricating the patient in three minutes. The patient was transported to a near by hospital. Shortly after Milton units cleared. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 2, Engine 4, Ladder 85, Rescue 85, A-85, 85-5 DSFP, DSP.

Yesterday around 2:30 units were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Lewes Georgetown Hwy. 85-4 arrived to find two vehicles in the roadway with an active fuel leak and a total of seven patients. Crews secured the vehicles and assisted with patient care. Ambulances A-85, D-82, and A-72 transported all seven patients to BMC. Shortly after Milton units cleared. Deputy Chief Hopkins had 85 command.

Donation

Today, the store managers from the Milton Food Lion showed up unnanounced at the station. After yesterdays fire, they thought it fitting to make a donation to the fire department. 100 cases of drinks were donated. This will be greatly appreciated and definitely replenishes our supply after yesterdays major fire. Thanks again to manager John Midash and asst. manager Thom Ludwig and the Milton Food Lion for the generous donation. It is greaty appreciated.

Multi Residential Structure Fire

September 22, 2020

Today, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Ellendale (75), Lewes (82) Memorial EMS (89), and Sussex County EMS for a multi-residental structure fire at 105 Federal St. in Milton. Chief Harvey who was working next door arrived as the call was being dispatched to find a working apartment fire in a "taxpayer" style building, and assisted the occupants of the fire apartment out to safety once the occupants were safely outside, Chief Harvey assumed command and, with the assistance of other Milton Police Officers, began the orderly evacuation of the retail stores and other apartments in the building. Engine 85-4 and Ladder 85 arrived and engine 4 deployed a ground ladder and handline to the "d" side to begin extinguishment. Crews from Ellendale and Lewes arrived and assisted with searches and extinguishment. Ladder 85s master stream was used on areas of the roof deemed unstable for crews to operate on. Station 77 was alerted to assist and responded with an engine and ladder as well. Crews remained on scene for two hours assisting the fire marshall as needed.

This morning just prior to the eight o’clock hour Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85, SCEMS, and Delaware Trooper 2 for a vehicle accident with rollover at Costal Hwy & Deep Branch Rd. Lewes Fire Chief 82-15 was in the area and arrived and advised there was no need for Delaware Trooper 2. 858 and 852 arrived and began debris clean up and assisted with patient care. A-85 and E-82 transported a total of four patients to BMC. Units cleared a short time later. FF B. Millman who was in duty officer training with Deputy Chief Hopkins commanded the incident.
