Vehicle Fire

June 27, 2023

Today as crews were sitting down to lunch, they received a ring on the intercom advising them of a vehicle fire in front of the fire house. Crews immediately notified Sussex. As the call was being alerted, crews in station responded with Engine 5 and made quick work of the fire. Incident is under investigation by Milton PD. Chief Hopkins had the Command.

Staffed Rescue Response to Lewes

June 26, 2023

At 1452 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Lewes (82), Rehoboth (86) and Sussex County EMS (paramedics) for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Coastal Hwy & Devon Rd. Rescue 85 responded as a staffed apparatus. Rescue 85 arrived as the second due rescue and was assigned to set up a landing zone for Lifenet 2. Crews also assisted EMS with patient care. Rescue 85 operated for about 30 minutes before being released to return to Milton.

Residential Structure Fire

June 23, 2023

At 1321, Sussex alerted Station 85 along with Lewes (82), Ellendale (75) and Memorial (89) for a house fire on Front Street, just outside of town limits. 85-8 and Engine-Tanker 85 arrived within a minute to find a single family home with a burning odor reported by the homeowner. Crews from the Engine-Tanker stretched a line and checked the home. Engine 82-2 arrived and their crew assisted with checking the interior of the home. Crews found no smoke or fire, and no odors upon fire department arrival. Command placed the scene under control and returned all units. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 85, Engine 85-5, Engine 82-2, Engine 75-3, B-85, A-89, Medic 111, Medic 104.

Wires Down

June 22, 2023

At 1518, Milton units were dispatched for wires down at the intersection of Lewes-Georgetown Hwy & Harbeson Rd. 85-8 arrived just after dispatch to find a low hanging wire that was struck by a truck. 85 units and fire police closed down Lewes-Georgetown Hwy. from Harbeson Rd. to Prettyman Rd. for a short period while DP & L responded to secure the power. Asst. Chief Millman had command. Units responding, Engine 5, Rescue 85, 85-8, DSFP, DSP.

Commercial Building Fire

June 20, 2023

Today Milton Fire along with multiple other mutual aid departments were dispatched to Collins St for a commercial building fire. 85-8 arrived to find a one story commercial building with fire from the rear of the building and established command. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the first engine and stretched two hand lines. Engine 85 arrived as the second engine and assisted with fire suppression. Rescue 85 arrived as the first special and completed a primary search. Crews worked for approx. two hours before cleaning.

Vehicle Accident

Today crews handled this vehicle accident. A-85 transported one to Bayhealth Sussex. D-85 obtained one refusal.

Assist 82, Upgraded Structure Fire

June 20, 2023

Just after 0200, Station 85 was alerted to assist Lewes (82) with an upgraded building fire at the Chinatown Buffet, Coastal Hwy in Lewes. 85-8 and Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived and assisted with ventilation and checking CO readings in the fire building and exposure "d". Units remained on scene for a short time before being released by 82 Command. Units responding, 85-8, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engine 85-5.

MVC, 9 & Cool Spring Rd.

June 16, 2023

At 1959 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a MVC on Rt. 9 and Cool Spring Rd. Deputy Chief Millman arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with a total of three patients. Deputy Chief Millman requested two additional BLS from Sta. 82, and Medic 104. Engine 85-5 arrived and secured the vehicles and assisted with traffic. Rescue 85 assisted with road clean up and patient care. A-85, A-82, and C-82 all transported one patient each to Beebe. 85 units cleared.

Assist Sta. 75, Trailer Fire

Just prior to the 9 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77) and Station 85 for a trailer fire on New Hope Rd., off of South Old State Rd. in Ellendale. Engine-Tanker 85-2, Tanker 85, and Engine 85-5 made the response. Crews from Ellendale arrived quickly and made quick work of the fire. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived as the 1st due special and assisted crews on scene with primary and secondary searches. Tanker 85 arrived and stood by while Engine 85-5 was cancelled. Milton units remained on scene for about 25 minutes before returning to Milton.

MVC with Entrapment

June 04, 2023

At 1620, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for yet another MVC at the intersection of Coastal Hwy & Broadkill Rd. 85-8, under the command of Deputy Chief Millman, arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with the vehicles approximately 1/2 mile apart. Chief Millman confirmed entrapment on one vehicle and requested ALS and the upgrade bringing Rescue Company 82 (Lewes) to the scene. Engine 85-5 and Rescue 85 arrived and completed a "blow out" of the whole driver side, and extricated the patient within six (6) minutes of arriving. 85-00 arrived and secured the northern most vehicle and assisted B-85 with loading their patient. Ambulance B-85 and D-82 transported patients to Beebe. Rescue Co. 82 was cancelled as they arrived. Deputy Chief Millman commanded the incident. Units responding, Engine 85-5, Rescue 85, 85-00, 85-8, B-85, Rescue 82, Engine 82-1, Engine-Tanker 82-4, D-82, Medic 111, DSP, DSFP.

Motor Vehicle Accident

At 1341 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a MVC at the intersection Coastal Hwy. & Broadkill Rd. Chief Hopkins arrived a short time later to find a two vehicle MVC with one patient. Engine 85-5 and Rescue 85 arrived and secured both vehicles. Ambulance 85 transported one patient to Beebe.

Fire Nature Unknown

June 02, 2023

At 0738 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a fire nature unknown in the area of Broadkill Rd. & Turkle Pond Rd. Ambulance 85 arrived to find the reporting party on the shoulder advising he saw smoke coming from the rear of a house under construction that was well off the roadway. Engine-Tanker 85 arrived and accessed the lane to the new home. Crews arrived at the home to find nothing evident and began their investigation. Upon completing their 360, crews found a pallet of building materials on fire behind the home. Crews advanced the "bumper line" and extinguished same. Crews also checked the interior of the home under construction to confirm there was no fire or hazard. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engine 85-5, Brush 85, A-85. Chief Hopkins commanded the incident.

Commercial Vehicle Fire

June 01, 2023

At 0420 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a commercial vehicle fire on Coastal Hwy in the area of Truitt Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a gasoline tanker with fire from the rear of the trailer. Engine-Tanker 85 arrived and deployed a 1 3/4 bumper line and extinguished same. Tanker 85 and Engine 85-5 assisted on scene. Coastal Hwy northbound was shut down for a brief period. Chief Hopkins commanded the incident. Units responding 85-8, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engine 85-5, Tanker 85, A-85, DSP, DSFP.
