Multi Residential Fire Assist Lewes

April 18, 2023

Today just before 5PM Milton Fire Department was dispatched to assist Lewes Fire with a multi residential fire. 85-8, Engine/Tanker 85-2, and Engine 85-5 all responded. Engine/Tanker 85 arrived as the third due engine and assisted with fire control. Engine 85-5 arrived as the fifth engine and was assigned as the RIT. Crews operated for an hour before clearing.

Engine 85-3 Weekly Update

In this report, our new Saber custom cab started the manufacturing and assembly process in the chassis cab weld department. The pumphouse was fabricated and assembled in the fabrication department. The fire pump is in staging for production.

Brush Fire

April 12, 2023

Today just after 8AM Milton Fire was dispatched to the area of Doddtown Rd for a brush fire. 85-8 arrived to find a small 20x20 area on fire. Brush 85-00 and Engine 85-5 arrived and extinguished the fire. Crews operated for approx. 20 minutes before clearing. Assistant Chief Millman commanded the incident.

MVC, Coastal Hwy s/o Broadkill Rd.

April 10, 2023

Just before 5 PM, Milton units responded to a vehicle accident on Coastal Hwy south of Broadkill Rd. Crews arrived to find a minor accident with minor injuries. Ambulance 85 transported one patient for evaluation. Fire units cleared after a short time and responded to a serious accident on Coastal Hwy in the area of Argo's Corner. Asst. Chief Millman had 85 Command. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Ambulance 85.

Awarding Paul Caras

Due some recent medical issues, Fire Police Officer Paul Caras was unable to attend the company banquet. Paul was the recipient of several awards banquet night. Members got in contact with Paul's wife and was able to surprise him tonight with his own awards ceremony here at the Station.

Vehicle Accident

April 04, 2023

This morning at 0931 hours, Sussex County EOC alerted Station 85 for a vehicle accident at the intersection of Coastal Hwy & Broadkill Rd. 85-8 responded at 0932 and advised Sussex to have the Lewes "staffed engine" respond. As 85-8 went responding, Sussex advised the call was now upgraded to entrapment with a vehicle on fire. 85-8 arrived a short time later to find a two vehicle accident with one rolled over, no entrapment and no fire. Rescue 82 arrived next and secured both vehicles and assisted the EMS crews with care. Engine 85-5 and Rescue 85 arrived and assisted where needed on scene. Asst. Chief Millman (17) placed the situation under control and returned units a short time later. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, 85-00, Rescue 82, B-85, D-85, E-82, Medic 111, Medic 104, EMS 100, Trooper 2, DSFP, DSP, Milton PD.

Town of Milton Volunteer of the Year

At tonight's town council meeting, Ladies Aux. President Mary Ann Warrington received the Town of Milton Volunteer of the Year award from the town council. The officers and members would like to congratulate Mary Ann on this accomplishment. We can't think of someone more deserving. Congratulations Mary Ann!!

Outside Fire

March 28, 2023

This afternoon, crews from Station 85 were alerted for an outside fire in the Cave Colony subdivision. Deputy Chief Millman was in the area and responded directly to the scene. Chief Millman arrived to find a large pile of debris on fire behind the residence. Brush 85 arrived and began extinguishment while the crew from Engine 5 assisted with water supply and overhaul. Crews were on scene for about 20 minutes before returning to service. Units responding, Engine 5, Brush 85, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Tanker 85, Ambulance 85, DSFP.

Company Banquet

Tonight, members enjoyed the evening off while attending the annual banquet. Several members and employees received various awards for tenure, top responder, and life saving activities. Thank you to Little Creek Fire Co. and Roxana Fire Co. for covering our district so our members could enjoy the evening.

Fire Alarm with Smoke in the Structure

March 16, 2023

At 1515, Sussex EOC contacted the Duty Crew on the "ring down" line to advise them of a fire alarm sounding on Union Street Extended. Engine-Tanker 85-2, and Duty Officer 85-8 made the response. Engine-Tanker 2 arrived first to find a single story home with a basement with nothing showing. As the officer completed his 360, the nozzle firefighter made entry to the front door and encountered a smoke condition in the home. Crews quickly determined the smoke was due to burnt food on the stove, and was quickly able to determine there was no extension and no need for the upgrade. Crews remained on scene for 30 minutes ventilating the structure. Deputy 85 had Command.

So We Did a Thing!!

Coming soon to Milton. Milton Fire Dept. has purchased a used ambulance from Mid Sussex Rescue Squad. Milton will be the third home of this unit as it was originally in-service with the Dagsboro Fire Department prior to serving with Mid Sussex. This ambulance will be used as a spare for our two in-service units until the arrival of our newly ordered unit sometime in late 2023 or early 2024. This unit will be known as "D-85". We will post more pictures once the unit is lettered and placed in-service.

Box Alarm Chimney Fire

March 12, 2023

At 1915, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Lewes (82), Rehoboth Beach (86), and Slaughter Beach (89) for a structure fire in the Cripple Creek subdivision off of Hudson Rd. 85-8 (Deputy Chief Millman) arrived at 1918 to find a single story residential with fire from the chimney. Engine 82-2 (staffed) arrived next and took the first due engine assignment. 82-2s officer (Lt. Hunsiker) reported a light smoke condition in the living area and stretched a handline. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived next and took the second due engine assignment. Crews form both units completed primary and secondary searches, and also checked for extension on the first floor and attic spaces. As crews were completing these tasks, Sussex EOC alerted for a box alarm just around the corner on Eagles Crest Rd. Command re-directed Engine 85-5, Rescue 85, and the balance of the Lewes and Rehoboth units to that alarm. Command held the response to Ladder 82, Tanker 85, and the units that were on scene. Crews operated for about an hour before turning the house over the homeowner and clearing.

Lucky Leprechaun 5K & St. Patty's Day Parade Standby

March 12, 2023

Today, the men and women of Station 85 maintained three ambulance crews, a gator crew, an engine crew, a dedicated command officer, and multiple fire police officers to cover the town for the Lucky Leprechaun 5K race and St. Patty's Day parade. The officers and members from Sta. 85 would like to also thank South Bowers Fire Company for providing "Squad 57" and a crew to standby and assist with coverage around the district while our members were committed to the events in town. We would also like to thank Bridgeville (72), Gumboro (79), Millsboro (83), Ellendale (75), Memorial (89), Lewes (82), and South Bowers (57) for providing fire police to assist with traffic control during the events, and the multiple police agencies from all over the State who provided security and traffic control for the event.

Multi Residential Structure Fire

March 09, 2023

Just prior to 4 o'clock, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77), Lewes (82), and Slaughter Beach (89) for a structure fire on S. Spinnaker Lane in Shipbuilders Village. Engine-Tanker 85-2 and 85-8 (Deputy Chief Millman) arrived to find a two story end of the row with nothing evident from the exterior. Engine-Tanker 2 laid in from the hydrant and their crew investigated. As command completed his 360, interior crews found a dryer and contents off in a utility room with some minor extension into the utility room. Engine 75-3 arrived and was assigned the delta exposure. Engine 82-2, Engine-Tanker 75-8, and Rescue 85 all arrived and assisted with searches and ventilation. Command scaled the incident back to the units on scene and returned the remainder of the box. Crews remained on scene a short while ventilating and assisting the homeowner.
