Residential Fire

September 09, 2022

Around 05:30 Milton Fire Dept. along with Lewes Fire, Ellendale Fire, Memorial Fire, and SCEMS were dispatched to the Woodfield Preserve community for a residential fire. Crews arrived to find a possible vehicle fire in the attached garage. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the first due engine and extinguished the fire. Engine 82-2 arrived as the second due engine and secured 85-2's hydrant. Truck-85 arrived as the first due special. Once the fire was in check and all searches were negative Milton Command placed the scene under control. The fire marshals office is investigating.

Multi Residential Fire Alarm

Just prior to the 4 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a fire alarm activation at Luther Towers in Milton. Deputy Chief Millman responded in 85-8, arriving shortly after dispatch to find a three story multi family with evacuation in progress and an audible alarm. Engine 85-4 arrived next and investigated an alarm activation on the first and third floor. Ladder 85 arrived and assisted the crew from Engine 4. Crews found a faulty smoke detector and Command placed the situation under control. Units responding 85-8, Engines 4, 5, Ladder 85, Tanker 85, A-85, DSFP, MPD.

Fatal MVC

September 04, 2022

Just after 11 o'clock, Station 85 along with Sussex County EMS were alerted for a serious MVC on Coastal Hwy in the area of the Broadkill Bridge. 85-8 arrived shortly after to find a vehicle vs. motorcycle MVC with multiple cars and pedestrians in the area and Northbound lanes of Coastal Hwy blocked. A-85 arrived next and was assigned to the priority patient in the roadway. Medic 104 and EMS 100 arrived and assessed the priority patient, and the two patients in the second vehicle. 85-5, Rescue 85, and 85-00 arrived and assisted with traffic and scene lighting. One patient was priority 4 on scene and one patient was transported to Beebe for evaluation. Coastal Hwy was closed for several hours while DSP investigated. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, 85-00, 85-11, DSP, DSFP, Medic 104, EMS 100.

Vehicle Accident Involving a Motorcycle

Staffed Engine Response to Lewes

Just after the 9 o'clock hours, just after going in station from our own alarm, Sussex EOC alerted Lewes (82) for a gas leak at the Vineyards of Nassau development just off of Lewes-Georgetown Hwy. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded immediately as part of the "staffed engine" mutual aid agreement between Lewes and Milton. The Engine-Tanker arrived as the second engine and assisted the crew from Engine 82-2 with checking the building. Crews worked for about 20 minutes before being released back to Milton. #Staffedenginesmatter, #Ittakesavillage

MVC with Injuries

At 2300 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a MVC at the intersection of Cave Neck Rd. & Hudson Rd. 85-8 responded with Deputy Chief Millman, and arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with one vehicle in a wooded area with heavy damage. Chief Millman confirmed all occupants were out the the vehicles with one injured. A-85 arrived and began patient care while Engine 5 secured the vehicles. A-85 transported 1 to Beebe for evaluation. Fire Police remained on scene assisting DSP with traffic control. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, A-85, DSFP, DSP, Milton Pd.

First Due Residential Structure Fire

July 22, 2022

As members were preparing for the scheduled duty crew, Sussex alerted Sta. 85, 75 (Ellendale), 82 (Lewes) and Medic 111 for a residential structure fire on N. Park Ave. off of Front St. 85-8 with Asst. Chief Millman (85-18) arrived within a minute of dispatch to find a small fire on the exterior of a home. Engine-Tanker 85-2 (staffed duty engine) arrived right behind 85-8. The Engine Tanker crew stretched an 1 3/4 inch and extinguished the fire on the exterior of the building. Ladder 85 arrived next and checked for extension and completed primary and secondary searches. Command scaled the response back to the Milton units and Engine Tanker 82-4. Units remained on scene for a few minutes completing overhaul and packing up. The occupant was checked by EMS and refused service. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Ladder 85, Tanker 85, A-85, Engine-Tanker 82-4, DSFP, Medic 111.

Engine Cover, Sta. 86

Just after 0230, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 to cover Rehoboth Sta. 2 Engine 85-2 made the response and covered Sta. 86 while their members operated on a residential structure fire. 85-2 remained in Rehoboth for about 90 minutes before returning to Milton.

Field Fire

June 28, 2022

At 1545 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a field fire on Round Pole Bridge Rd. off of Hudson Rd. 85-8 responded with Deputy Chief Millman, and arrived in three minutes to find a small fire in a barley field. 85-00, 85-11 and Engine 4 arrived a short time later and extinguished.

Machinery / Field Fire

June 25, 2022

June 25th Milton Fire Dept responded to a piece of farm machinery on fire that also caught the field on fire. 85-8 arrived to find a baler with a 100x100 area of field on fire. Milton Command immediately requested stations 82 and 75 for brush trucks and tankers. Crews worked for approx 2 hours before clearing. Thanks to station 77 for covering our local while crews operated. Assistant Chief Millman commanded the incident.
