Today, Chief Hopkins and Ladies Aux. President Mary Ann Warrington attended the State Fire Prevention Awards. Marisa Golan, a fifth grader from H. O. Brittingham Elementary School was the first place winner for the State for her grade level. Congratulations Marisa.

Tonight, members had a chance to relax and enjoy fellowship as well as celebrate various achievements from throughout the year. Thanks to Camden-Wyoming and Dagsboro Fire Companies for providing coverage for Milton so our members could enjoy the night.

Just before 2100 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 and County EMS for a motor vehicle accident on Broadkill Rd. just east of the town limits of Milton. 85 Command responded within a minute with Asst. Chief Millman (85-18). Just after responding, Sussex EOC advised Chief Millman that there was now reports of entrapment and Station 75 (Ellendale) was alerted for the additional rescue. Asst. Chief Millman arrived on scene to find a single vehicle rolled over in a field and confirmed entrapment. Engine 85-5 arrived and began extrication. Engine 5s crew made quick work of the door pop and had the patient out of the vehicle in less than five minutes. Command held the response to the Milton units and Rescue 75. Units remained on scene a short time before returning to service.

Today, Milton Fire Dept. attended the annual St. Patty's Day parade. The department assisted with parade lineup, had multiple units in the parade, and still maintained and engine crew, command officer, and three ambulance crews during the event. We also want to thank South Bowers Fire Co (57) for providing an engine crew as well.

At 1742 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a woods fire on Walker Rd. off of Hudson Rd. 85-8 arrived within a minute of dispatch to find a half acre of woods on fire with no exposures. Deputy Chief Millman assumed 85 Command. Brush 85 arrived next and placed "the red line" inservice to begin extinguishment. Engine 85-4 arrived a short time later and assisted the crew of Brush 85 with extinguishment. Units responding, 85-8, 85-00, 85-4, 85-11, DSFP.

Just as crews backed into quarters from the woods fire, a resident of our district arrived at the station very upset about her cat. The resident had just moved into the area from Texas and her cat had gotten out of the house and climbed a tree. The resident was very concerned as the cat had been in the tree for over two days with no food. 85-8 and Ladder 85 responded to the residence in the Cave Colony subdivision. Crews arrived and confirmed the cat was still in the tree about 40 feet in the air. Chief Hopkins promptly dawned his PPE and scaled Ladder 85 rescuing the feline in no time flat. The cat was returned to its owner who was very appreciative. Station 85, "we still respond to house calls".

Just prior to 2200 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85, Lewes (82), Rehoboth (86), Memorial EMS (89) and County ALS for a residential structure fire on Cripple Creek Dr. in Cripple Creek. Portable 82 (Esposito) arrived on scene with nothing evident. After conferring with the owner, Portable 82 advised a possible chimney fire with no extension. Engine 82-2 arrived first taking the first due engine assignment. 85-8 arrived and Chief Hopkins assumed Command. Units from Lewes, Milton, and Rehoboth mitigated the fire in the chimney and ventilated the structure. Command placed the situation under control and cleared all units. Units on scene, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engines 82-2, 82-9, 86-3, Ladder 85, A-89, Medic 111, FM-20, DSFP.

At 1115 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85, Lewes (82), Georgetown (77) Mid Sussex Rescue Squad (91) and Sussex County EMS for a residential structure fire in the Cool Spring Farms subdivision. Engine 82-2 arrived first due to find a double wide trailer with fire showing and assumed the first due engine. Engine 77-4 arrived next assuming the second due engine, with their crew assisting the crew of 82-2 with fire attack. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived next with Asst. Chief Millman (85-18) assuming command. Crews knocked the bulk of the fire down within minutes with searches proving negative. Command quickly scaled the assignment back to 82-2, 77-4, and the 85 units. Units responding, ET 85-2, 85-4, Tanker 85, 82-2, 82-9, Tanker 82, 77-4, Tanker 77, 77-2, B-91, Medic 106, DSFP.

At 1454 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Ellendale (75), Station 85, and Carlisle (Kent County 42) for a commercial structure fire in the Ingram Village subdivision in Ellendale. Asst. Engineer A. Moore (75-27) arrived a short time after dispatch and confirmed a working fire. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded from Milton, and arrived third due. Milton's crew was tasked with throwing additional ground ladders and making entry to the second floor to assist with fire attack. Crews from 75, 85, and 42 worked for about an hour to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. Units on scene, Engines 75-3, 85-2, Tankers 75-4, 42, 85, B-75, Medic 101, FM 20, DSFP.

Saturday February 19th proved to be a busy evening with a total of four responses. At 19:41 Milton Fire Dept. was alerted for an Engine Company cover up at Station 82 (Nassau Park) while their members worked at a multi family townhouse fire in the Rehoboth local. Engine/Tanker 85-2 made the response. Shortly after arriving at Station 82, Sussex EOC advised 85-2 to move up to Rehoboth Station two. At 20:14 while responding to Rehoboth, Sussex EOC dispatched stations 80 (Indian River), 83 (Millsboro), 82 (Lewes), 73 (Dagsboro), ambulance 91 (Mid Sussex), and SCEMS ME106 for a residential fire off of Friendship Rd in Long Neck. 85-2 immediately made the response and arrived as the second due engine. Crews worked for approx. two hours before clearing the scene. At 20:51 while 85-2 operated at the 80 fire, Sussex EOC alerted stations 85, 82 (Lewes), 89 (Memorial), 75 (Ellendale), and SCEMS ME104 for a residential fire in the Grants Way community, off of Broadkill Rd. Engine 85-4 made the response and arrived to find a small fire that was extinguished on the back porch. 85-command immediately reduced the assignment down to Milton units only. Just after midnight, as crews were cleaning up after the working fire, Sussex EOC alerted stations 85, 82 (Lewes), 89 (Memorial), 75 (Ellendale), and SCEMS ME104 for a residential fire with subjects trapped just outside of town limits on Draper Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a small one story single family residence with smoke from the rear of the building. Engine/tanker 85-2 arrived as the first due engine and quickly extinguished the fire. Once crews verified negative extension into the residence command placed the scene under control and reduced the assignment to 85 units only.

Rickards who passed away tragically 20 years ago today in the line of duty, in a motor vehicle accident.

This morning around 07:30 Milton Fire Dept was dispatched to Coastal Hwy and Hudson Rd for a vehicle accident with entrapment. 85-8 responded immediately and requested an additional rescue company out of Station 82 (Lewes). Crews arrived and confirmed one patient trapped in need of a door pop. Rescue-82 and Engine 85-5 worked on the entrapment and the patient was then transported.

At 1858 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a MVC on Gravel Hill Rd. in the area of Huff Rd. 85-8 with Deputy Chief Millman arrived to find a vehicle on its side with a pole and wire down, with no entrapment. Engine 85-5 and Rescue 85 arrived and were tasked with securing the vehicle and cleaning up debris from the vehicle. Command requested DelDot to respond with a street sweeper to clean up several cases of nails and screws that had covered the roadway. Ambulance 85 obtained a refusal. 85 units cleared a short time later and turned the scene over to the State Police.

Just after the 8 o'clock hours, Station 85 was alerted for a vehicle fire on Gravel Hill Rd. at CDI. 85-8 and Engine 85-4 responded a short time later, arriving to find a tractor trailer with the cab fully involved. Crews from Engine 4, Engine-Tanker 85-2, and 85-00 worked for 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. Units cleared a short time later. Asst. Chief Millman had Command. Units responding Engine 4, Engine-Tanker 2, Brush 85, Command 85, DSP, DSFP.

Just prior to 0600 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Lewes (82), Station 85, Rehoboth (86) and Indian River (80) for a structure fire on Fourth St., within the City limits of Lewes. Milton responded with Engine 85-4 and Ladder 85. Crews arrived and assisted Lewes units with extinguishment, overhaul, and searches. Command eventually scaled back the response to the Lewes and Milton units. Milton crews remained on scene about an hour before returning to Milton. While on this call, Milton handled an additional emergency assisting the ambulance with a serious medical emergency. Ellendale Fire Co. (75) also provided an engine cover up in Milton.
