Passing of William H Smith

It is with the deepest regret and sympathy that we announce that life member, engineer, and superintendent of supplies, William H. Smith “Bill Henry” of the Milton Fire Department Inc., has answered his last alarm on Saturday July 29th, 2023. Bill Henry was recently recognized for his 50 years of service award. His service included superintendent of supplies, chief engineer and assistant secretary. In his 50 years, he rarely missed a Tuesday night meeting at the fire hall. Bill is survived by three daughters, Tracy McLamb and husband Donald, Jennifer McKean and husband Michael, and Katie Shockley and husband Scott; their mother, Donna Smith; five grandchildren, Hannah, Kelsie, Melanie, Thomas and Grayne; his canine companions, Labradors Lux and Maggie; as well as numerous cousins, extended family, and friends. A full fireman’s funeral will be held on Saturday August 5, 2023, at 12pm at Shorts Funeral Home, Milton. Prior to the funeral services a viewing will be held starting at 1000 hours. Departments wishing to attend are asked to utilize their department's uniform and a meet at the Goshen Church Parking lot at 1045, located at the corner of Federal St. and Mulberry St. A representative from Milton Fire Department will provide further direction there. Engine 85-3 Weekly Update

Residential Fire

Milton Fire assisted Georgetown Fire on a residential fire. Engine/Tanker 85 arrived and investigated. Truck-85 arrived next and assisted as needed on scene. 77CM placed the scene under control a short time later and held the response to 85 and 77 units.

Vehicle Accident w/ Rollover

Milton Fire handled this vehicle accident at Coastal Hwy and Broadkill Rd. EMS units obtained two patient refusals. Assistant Chief Millman held 85 command.

Milton Fire handled this vehicle accident at Coastal Hwy and Broadkill Rd. Crews arrived to find a five vehicle MVC. EMS units obtained one patient refusal. Assistant Chief Millman held 85 command.

Bayhealth Total Care Open House

Crews attended the grand opening and open house of the new Bayhealth Total Care on Route 9 in Harbeson.

Residential Fire

July 09, 2023

Milton Fire along with multiple mutual aid departments were dispatched to the 12000 block of Isaacs Rd for a residential fire. 85-8 arrived to find a one story single family residential building with nothing evident. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the first engine and investigated. Crews found a small extinguished fire in the kitchen and quickly reduced the box to 85 units only. Truck-85 arrived as the first special and set up ventilation. Crews operated for approx. thirty minutes before clearing. Chief Hopkins held 85 command.

Automatic Fire Alarm

Engine/Tanker 85-2 & Truck-85 responded to assist Lewes Fire on a fire alarm as part of the staffed engine response agreement. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the second engine and Truck-85 arrived as the first special. Crews operated for a short time before returning to service.

Duty Crew Training

Tonight, the duty crew trained on box alarm responses, hose stretching, search, and incident command. The training was led by Asst. Chief Millman and Captain Nauman.

Staffed Rescue Assist Sta. 82

June 30, 2023

At 1346, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 82 for a MVC at the intersection of Hopkins Rd. & Fisher Rd. Rescue-85 was staffed and responded as part of the staffed unit MOU. Rescue-85 arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with minor injuries. Command 82 arrived and established command. Rescue-85 assisted as needed before being released by command.

Vehicle Accident w/ Entrapment

June 30, 2023

Milton Fire responded to Coastal Hwy & Deep Branch Rd for an MVC. Crews arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with one patient confined to the vehicle. Engine 85-5 and Rescue-85 extricated the patient. A-85 & B-85 transported one patient each to Bayhealth Sussex. Coastal Hwy was closed throughout the incident. Asst. Chief Millman held 85 command.
