Odor of Gas

Tonight, Milton units responded to the Starlight Meadows development for an odor of gas in a residence. Crews from Engine 85 and Truck 85 checked and ventilated the home. Chief Hopkins had command. Units responding, Engine 85, Truck 85, Car 85, A-85.

Staffed Rescue Assists Sta. 77

July 23, 2024

Tonight around 1900, Georgetown Fire Co. was dispatched for a MVC that quickly upgraded to entrapment on 113 in the area of the Walmart. Rescue 85 responded with six as part of the staffed unit mutual aid agreement. Rescue 77 arrived and was put to work extricating a patient from the second vehicle involved. Crews then assisted as needed elsewhere on the scene. The Milton crew worked for just under an hour before being cleared by 77 Command.

MSA Airpack Demo

Tonight, members and officers took part in a demo of MSA air packs. Members are reviewing various packs in preparation for ordering new packs in the next few years.

Special Visit

June 23, 2024

Just before lunch, the duty crew from Milton made a special visit to a member of the community. On June 4, Daniel went missing from his house just outside of town around 1900 hours. Crews from Milton and various other fire and police agencies searched well into the next day for Daniel. Daniel eventually returned home the next day. Today, Chief Hopkins and the members of the Duty Crew visited Daniel to check how he was doing and also brought him some t shirts and fire prevention supplies. Daniel had a good time meeting the firefighters and checking out their trucks. Daniels family reports he is doing well and has not went back into the woods since the incident.

Automatic Crash Notification

Just as the Duty Crew was cleaning up from lunch, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for an automatic crash notification on Hudson Rd. in the area of Coastal Hwy. CAR-85, Engine 4, Rescue 85, and B-85 all responded at the time of dispatch. While responding, Sussex EOC advised a second call reported possibly a property damage accident only. CAR-85 arrived a short time later to find a two vehicle accident with two patients. B-85 arrived and assessed both patients, obtaining refusals on each. Engine 4 and the Rescue secured the vehicles and cleaned up debris. Deputy Chief Millman placed the scene under control and returned all units. DSP is investigating. Units responding, CAR-85, Engine 4, Rescue 85, Utility 85-9, B-85, D-85, DSFP, DSP.

Gas Leak

Just before 9 A.M. Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a gas leak in the area of Heritage Blvd. in Milton. CAR-85 and Engine 3 arrived to find a gas line that had been struck by a construction worker in an excavator. Engine 3 placed a protection line inservice and crews checked the nearby homes. Fire Police closed the entrance to the community for about 45 minutes while crews work to secure the leak. Deputy Chief Millman had command. Units responding, CAR-85, Engine 3, Truck 85, DSFP.

Staffed Unit Assist Sta. 82, MVC w/Entrapment

Just before the 9 o'clock hours, Lewes (82) along with Rehoboth (86), Sussex County EMS, and Trooper 2 were alerted for a MVC w/entrapment at Wescoats Rd. & Marsh Rd. Rescue 85 responded immediately as part of the "staffed apparatus" MOI. Rescue 85 arrived and was put to work assisting the Lewes crews already on scene with extrication. Once extrication was completed, 82 Command released Rescue 85 to return to Milton. Asst. Chief Fiest (82-16) had command. Units responding, Engine 82-1, 82-9, Rescue 82, B-82, C-82, Rescue 85, 86-8, Medic 104, EMS 100, DSP, DSFP.

MVC w/ Entrapment

Just before 5 P.M. Sussex EOC alerted Memorial (89) and Station 85 for a MVC on Coastal Hwy in the area of Sugar Hill Rd. CAR-85 arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with no entrapment and minor injuries. Engine 85-3 arrived and secured vehicles and assisted the EMS crew with loading patient. Chief Glasco (89-15) arrived and assumed command. Command held the response to the 89 units and returned 85 units. Units responding, CAR-85, Engine 85-3, Rescue 85, Utility 85-9, Rescue-Engine 89-2, 89-15, B-89, DSFP, DSP.

Water Rescue 1 Evolutions

Today, members from Milton and surrounding departments finished up the Water Rescue I course held at Station 85. Crews completed various evolutions throughout the day with the instructors reinforcing what was learned in the classroom. Special thanks to Jerry and Fran Kiser for allowing the members to use their pool for training.

Medical Emergency with Extrication

At 1129 hours, A-85 requested manpower to assist with a priority 1 medical patient on Harbeson Road in Harbeson. CAR-85 arrived on scene to find a priority 1 patient under the care of A-85 and SCEMS. Upon assessment of the home, it was determined removal of the patient via stars in the home would be unsafe. Command requested the Truck Company from Georgetown (77) to assist. Ladder 77 arrived and set up on the A side of the structure. Crews from Ladder 77 and Engine 85 removed a second floor window and removed the patient out to the awaiting tower bucket. Ambulance 85 along with medics transported the patient to the hospital. Deputy Chief Millman had command.

MVC W/Injuries

As members were cleaning up from the BBQ fundraiser, Sussex EOC alerted Milton (85), Memorial EMS (89), Sussex County EMS and Trooper 2 for a MVC with injuries on Cedar Creek Rd. in the area of Peppers Greenhouses. Car-85 arrived a short time after dispatch to find a two vehicle MVC with two patients. Engine 85-3 arrived and completed a door pop on one vehicle to access the patient. A-85 and B-89 both transported patients to the local ER. Scene was turned over to DSP for investigation. Deputy Chief Millman had command.
