Vehicle Fire

May 21, 2023

Just prior to the 12 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a vehicle fire on Anderson Corner Rd. just off of Harbeson Rd. Engine 82-1 responded as part of the Staffed Engine MOU. 85-8 arrived to find a minivan well involved with all occupants out. Engine 85-5 and 82-1 arrived and placed a handline inservice for extinguishment. A-85 evaluated the driver and obtained a refusal. Crews were on scene a short time before turning the scene over to the Delaware State Police. Deputy Chief Millman commanded the incident. Units responding, Engine 85-5, Engine 82-1, Rescue 85, Brush 85-00, 85-8, A-85, DSP, DSFP.

Residential Fire

May 20, 2023

Today Milton Crews assisted Lewes Fire with a residential fire in the Covington Chase subdivision. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the third due engine, laid a supply line from the secondary water source, and pulled a back up line to assist with extinguishment. Engine 85-5 arrived as the fourth due engine and assisted as needed. Crew operated for approx. two hours. Assistant Chief Cranford (85-18) Commanded the incident.

Chief Hopkins Receives Fire Chief of the Year Award

Tonight at the Sussex County EMS Banquet, Fire Chief John Hopkins was awarded 2022 Fire Chief of the Year for Sussex County. Congratulations Chief, and keep of the good work.

MVC w/ Motorcycle

Milton Fire along with SCEMS and DT2 handled this MVC involving a motorcycle. One patient was flown to Christiana Medical Center.

Engine 85-3 Weekly Update

May 11, 2023

This week, our new Saber custom cab and cab doors were painted in the paint department and are in staging for the cab assembly production team. The chassis frame rails are in staging for production. The apparatus body went through the primer process and is presently being prepped by the paint department for the final paint process. The fire pump/pump module and additional body components are in the paint department going through the primer and paint process. Next week expect similar type of progress to continue on the apparatus.

Residential Fire

Today just prior to 09:00 Milton Fire along with multiple mutual aid departments were dispatched to a residential fire in the area of Diamond Farm Rd and Walker Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a two story single family wood frame residential with fire showing throughout. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the first due engine and operated two handlines. Engine 85-5 arrived as the second due engine and assisted the 85-2 crew interior. Rescue-85 arrived as the first due special service and completed primary searches. Multiple mutual aid departments arrived and assisted with various fire ground duties. Deputy Chief Millman commanded the incident. The fire is under investigation by the State of Delaware Fire Marshalls office. Any information should be directed to them.

Engine 85-3 Weekly Update

In this report, our new Saber custom cab and cab doors are presently in the paint booth going through the final paint process. (No pictures available at this time). The chassis frame rails are in staging for production. The apparatus body was finalized in the body weld shop and is presently in the body trim department having the apparatus body trimmed with aluminum treadplate and compartment doors installed. The fire pump/pump module was assembled by the pump assembly department and is staged for the paint department for the primer/paint process. Next week expect similar type of progress to continue on the apparatus.

Motor Vehicle Accident

May 04, 2023

Just after the 8 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 and County ALS for a MVC on Sand Hill Rd. in the area of Lavinia St. Ambulance 85 arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with 5 patients and declared a level 1 MCI. Engine 85-5 arrived with Asst. Chief Millman assuming Command and EMS Chief Millman assuming the EMS sector. After a short time, crews determined that four patients would be transported in B-85, BLS, and the last would refuse. Command placed the situation under control and cancelled all ALS and mutual aid ambulances. Engine 5 secured the vehicles and returned. Units responding, B-85, 85-5, Rescue 85, 85-10, A-75, A-89, D-93, Medic 111, Medic 108, DSP, MPD, DSFP.

Lightning Strike

April 30, 2023

Today just after 8PM Milton Fire was dispatched to Shipbuilders Village for multiple houses struck by lightning. Crews arrived and checked seven homes and found no smoke or fire. Crews operated for approx. 45 minutes before clearing. Deputy Chief Millman commanded the incident.

Engine 85-3 Weekly Update

In this report, our new Saber custom cab and cab doors are presently in the paint department being prepped for the primer process. The chassis frame rails were received at the Bradenton plant and will be staged for production. The apparatus body is being fabricated and assembled in the body weld shop. The fire pump and pumphouse are being assembled by the pump department team. Next week, expect similar type of work to continue on the apparatus.

Assist Lewes, Structure Fire

April 20, 2023

Just after 1000 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Lewes (82), Milton, Indian River (80), and Rehoboth Beach (86) for a structure fire on Beaver Dam Rd in Lewes. Engine-Tanker 85-2 made the response. Lewes units arrived on scene to find smoke in the building believed to be from the HVAC system. Command scaled the incident back to the Lewes units and Engine-Tanker 85-2. The engine-tanker returned to Milton 30 minutes later.

Officer Call Upgrades to Structure Fire

April 20, 2023

At 1230 hours, Sussex EOC contacted the "duty officer", Deputy Chief Millman and advised him they received a call about a building fire in the area where there was a reported control burn. Deputy Chief Millman proceeded in 85-8 along with Engine-Tanker 85-2 to check the area. Deputy Chief Millman arrived two minutes later to find smoke showing from behind a group of buildings across the street from the control burn. Upon further investigation, Deputy Chief Millman found a small storage barn on fire with extension to a large area of debris immediately adjacent to the building, and requested the box be filled. Engine-Tanker 85 arrived a minute later and led off with an 1 3/4 inch mattydale line and began extinguishment. Engine 82-2 arrived next and split crews, one crew pulling a second line from Engine-Tanker 85 and assisting with extinguishment and the second crew pulling debris from the pile with hooks. Tanker 77 arrived and assisted with water supply and overhaul. Crews remained on scene for about an hour before turning the scene over to the Delaware State Fire Marshall and DNREC. Units responding, 85-8, Engine-Tanker 85, Tanker 85, Engine 82-2, Tanker 77, B-85, Medic 111, FM-16, DNREC, DSFP.
