Career Day at Mariner Middle School

March 27, 2024

Today, fire and EMS crews attended Mariner Middle Schools career day. Members spoke with 8th graders about careers in the fire and EMS service. Sussex County EMS were also there along with the Sussex County EOC to talk about careers as paramedics and dispatchers in the County. Thank you Mariner Middle for the invite.

Fire Officer 2 Certification

March 24, 2024

Today, Chief Officers completed Fire Officer 2 training through Delaware State Fire School. Special thanks to Chief Ralph Tucker and Past Chief Derrick Harvey who covered as the Duty Chief while the officers attended class.

MVC W/Entrapment

March 22, 2024

Just after 0630 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 along with Rescue Co. 75 (Ellendale), Medic 111, Medic 201, EMS 100 (Sussex County EMS) and Trooper 2 (DSP) for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Milton-Ellendale Hwy. in the area of Marges Path. Senior FF William Wright Jr. (Freshy) was passing by as the call was dispatched and stopped to render aid. Firefighter Wright, with the assistance of the EMS crew were able to rapidly extricate the patient. Engine 85, Rescue 85, and Rescue 75 crews assisted EMS, secured the vehicles, secured a large diesel fuel leak, and secured a landing zone for Trooper 2. Trooper 2 transported one patient to Christiana ER and Ambulance 75 (Ellendale) obtained a refusal. DNREC and Millsboro Fire Dept. were requested for the HAZMAT response for the fuel leak and spill. Asst. Chief Cranford placed the scene under control and turned it over to DNREC and the Delaware State Police. Units responding, Engine 85, Rescue 85, Rescue 75, A-85, A-75, Medic 111, Medic 201, Utility 83, HAZMAT 83, DNREC, DSP, Milton PD, Fire Police, DELDOT.

Working Fire

March 17, 2024

Milton Fire along with mutual aid departments were dispatched to the area of Reynolds Rd & Deep Branch Rd for a reported residential fire. 85-16 arrived to find a shed fully involved with exposure to a second shed and a residential trailer. Multiple units arrived and completed various fire duties to bring the scene under control.

Annual Fire Co. Banquet

March 16, 2024

Tonight, members and spouses enjoyed a night off and attended the departments annual banquet. Members spent the evening having fellowship and recognizing the members who went above and beyond this year. Thanks to Little Creek Fire Co. for covering our district for the night so our members could enjoy the banquet.

Assist Sta. 82, MVC w/Entrapment

March 14, 2024

Just before lunch, Station 85 was alerted to assist Lewes (82) with a vehicle accident with entrapment on Lewes-Georgetown Hwy. in the area of Sea Spray Village. Engine 85-3 responded immediately and arrived a short time later and was assigned to set up a landing zone and assist with extrication. Milton crews remained on scene about 30 minutes before returning to Milton.

MVC W/Injuries

March 11, 2024

Just as crews were starting their day, Station 85 was alerted for a MVC with injuries at Coastal Hwy & Hudson Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with two patients and requested a BLS unit from Lewes (82). Engine 85 arrived and secured the vehicles while the EMS crews treated and transported both patients.

Residential Structure Fire

February 27, 2024

In the early evening hours, Sussex EOC alerted Milton (85), Lewes (82), Indian River (80), Medic 111 for a house fire in the Cool Springs Farm Development in Harbeson. 85-8 (Asst. Chief Cranford) arrived to find a single family home with smoke showing. Engine 82-2 arrived first and assumed the first due engine. 82-2s crew stretched a line and make quick work of the fire. Additional crews from Milton and Lewes completed searches and ventilation. Units remained on scene for about 45 minutes before clearing. The State Fire Marshall is investigating.

85-8 and Rescue-85 assisted Lewes Fire on an MVC w/ entrapment. 85-8 arrived, confirmed one trapped, and operated as 82 command. Rescue-85 assisted Rescue-82 with extrication.

Field Fire

Milton Fire assisted Millsboro Fire on a field fire. Brush 85-11, Engine 85-4, & Tanker-85 responded.

Assist 82

January 31, 2024

Just prior to the 9 o'clock hour, Station 82 was dispatched for a vehicle on fire on Whitehall Dr. Engine 85-3 responded as part of the "staffed engine" MOI. 82-8 arrived and upgraded the response to a box alarm for a vehicle fire with extension to the home. Engine 82 arrived and began fire attack. Engine 85-3 arrived and assisted with fire attack and water supply. Truck 85 arrived and was staged. Command placed scene under control and held the response to the 82 and 85 units.

Water Rescue, Wagamons Pond

January 31, 2024

Just prior to 4 o'clock, Sussex EOC alerted Milton (85) Lewes (82) Memorial of Slaughter Beach (89) and South Bowers (57) fire departments, along with Sussex County Medic 111 and 208 for a water rescue in the Wagamons Pond off of Mulberry St. A-85 and 85-11 (Asst. Chief Millman) arrived within a minute to find a kayak overturned with a patient on top, partially in the water. 85-8 arrived shortly after and assumed Command. As marine units were arriving and beginning to deploy, Trooper 2 arrived and was able to deploy a flotation device from the air to the patient. 85 Marine 1 launched and was able to reach the patient and get him aboard and transported back to the dock to awaiting EMS crews. A-85 transported one patient for evaluation. Fire units cleared. Units responding, 85-8, 85-11, 85-00, 85M1, A-85, 85-3, 82-8, Rescue 82, 89 Marine-2, Airboat 57, Medic 111, 208, Milton PD, DSFP, DNREC.
