MVC with One Confined

December 07, 2022

Just after 0700, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 for a motor vehicle accident on Anderson Corner Rd. just West of Harbeson Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a vehicle into a pole with wires down on the vehicle. Delaware Electric arrived within minutes and secured power to the area. Crews from Milton and the Delaware State Police assisted the occupant out of the vehicle. Milton EMS evaluated the patient and transported to Beebe. 85 fire units cleared, fire police assisted DSP with traffic for a short time. Deputy Chief Millman (Deputy 85) had command. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, A-85, DSP, DSFP.

Assist 77, House Fire

December 07, 2022

Shortly after clearing the MVC, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, along with other units in the County to assist Sta. 77 (Georgetown) with a house fire on Wilson Hill Rd. in Georgetown. Engine-Tanker 85-2 and Ladder 85 responded. Crews arrived and assisted as assigned by 77 Command. Crews remained on scene for about a half an hour before returning to Milton.

Duty Crew Tasks

November 19, 2022

Tonight, several members attended the duty crew for the evening. Crews kept busy detailing Rescue 85. Crews also assisted Lewes Fire Dept. on several emergencies in Lewes, and handled a small brush fire in the 85 Local.

Residential Structure Fire

November 13, 2022

At approximately 1520 hours, while enroute to Rehoboth Station 2 for a cover up, Sussex alerted Milton, Lewes, Indian River, Georgetown, and Memorial for a residential structure fire on Idaho Ct. in the Lewes local. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded from Coastal Hwy & John J. Williams Hwy, arriving within minutes to find a single story, single family home with nothing evident. Crews from 85-2 found an extinguished fire on the "delta" side of the home. Ladder 82, Quint 70-4, and 82-3 arrived and completed searches, overhaul and checked for extension. Command scaled the response back to the units on the scene. Units stood by for a short time awaiting the fire marshal. Deputy 85 had the "Lewes" Command.

Residential Fire

November 10, 2022

At 1123 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Ellendale (75), Lewes (82), and Memorial (89) for a house fire on Broadkill Rd. in the area of Turkle Pond Rd. Lewes Duty Officer R. Stephens (82-16) arrived first to find a single family home with fire showing and established the Milton Command. Engine 82-2 arrived and stretched two handlines and began fire attack. Engine Tanker 85-2, and Engine 85-4 arrived next assisting interior crews and establishing a water supply. Additional crews from Milton, Ellendale, Memorial, Lewes, Rehoboth, and Indian River assisted with various fireground tasks. One civilian was transported to Beebe with burns and one firefighter was transported to Milford with a cardiac issue. Units remained on scene for two hours bringing the situation under control.

Holland Mills Halloween Event

Tonight, crews from 85 attended the Holland Mills Halloween parade and event. Members showed off our brush truck and handed out fire prevention frisbees to the attendees.

Lenny Strong

October 15, 2022

Today, Milton Fire Department members, ladies aux. members, and friends of the department put together two teams and participated in a benefit softball tournament for Lenny Williams. Lenny was the son of Life Member, Past Asst. Chief Stephen Carey, and recently passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Congrats to team 684 for winning the tournament championship.

MVC Unknown

October 15, 2022

At 0732, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a MVC on Coastal Hwy in the area of Steamboat Landing Rd. 85-8 arrived a short time later to find a vehicle on its side with multiple DSP units on scene. Deputy Chief Millman established the Milton Command. Rescue 52 arrived next and was tasked with securing the vehicle and checking the immediate area for any patients. Rescue 85 and Engine 5 arrived a short time later and assisted Rescue 52. No patients were located in the immediate area. Command placed the situation under control and returned all units. Units responding, 85-8, Rescue 52, Engine 5, Rescue 85, A-82, DSP, DSFP.

Fire Prevention, Lowes, Lewes, DE

Today, Milton participated along side Lewes and Indian River Fire Co. at the annual fire prevention display and the Lewes Lowes.

PD MVC Upgrades to a Vehicle Fire

September 22, 2022

This afternoon, as units from Lewes, Rehoboth, and Milton were responding to a structure fire in Lewes, Station 85 was alerted for a second emergency for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Lewes-Georgetown Hwy & Fisher Rd. Deputy 85 responded to the scene, arriving a few minutes later to find a two vehicle PD MVC with a vehicle in a ditch and on fire. Deputy Chief Millman established the Milton Command. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived and placed a front bumper line in-service to extinguish the fire. Engine 85-5 arrived next and secured the second vehicle that was part of the MVC. A-85 arrived and evaluated one patient who eventually refused transport. Units worked on scene about 20 minutes before returning to service. Units responding, Engine-Tanker 2, Engine 5, A-85, DSP, DSFP.

EMS Training with Sussex County EMS

September 22, 2022

Today, career and volunteer staff members trained side by side with paramedics from SCEMS. Sussex County brought several simulation mannequins to the fire house and trained on multiple difference scenarios. This is the third time that our staff members have participated in this type of training.

Residential Fire

September 09, 2022

Around 05:30 Milton Fire Dept. along with Lewes Fire, Ellendale Fire, Memorial Fire, and SCEMS were dispatched to the Woodfield Preserve community for a residential fire. Crews arrived to find a possible vehicle fire in the attached garage. Engine/Tanker 85-2 arrived as the first due engine and extinguished the fire. Engine 82-2 arrived as the second due engine and secured 85-2's hydrant. Truck-85 arrived as the first due special. Once the fire was in check and all searches were negative Milton Command placed the scene under control. The fire marshals office is investigating.

Multi Residential Fire Alarm

September 05, 2022

Just prior to the 4 o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a fire alarm activation at Luther Towers in Milton. Deputy Chief Millman responded in 85-8, arriving shortly after dispatch to find a three story multi family with evacuation in progress and an audible alarm. Engine 85-4 arrived next and investigated an alarm activation on the first and third floor. Ladder 85 arrived and assisted the crew from Engine 4. Crews found a faulty smoke detector and Command placed the situation under control. Units responding 85-8, Engines 4, 5, Ladder 85, Tanker 85, A-85, DSFP, MPD.

Fatal MVC

September 04, 2022

Just after 11 o'clock, Station 85 along with Sussex County EMS were alerted for a serious MVC on Coastal Hwy in the area of the Broadkill Bridge. 85-8 arrived shortly after to find a vehicle vs. motorcycle MVC with multiple cars and pedestrians in the area and Northbound lanes of Coastal Hwy blocked. A-85 arrived next and was assigned to the priority patient in the roadway. Medic 104 and EMS 100 arrived and assessed the priority patient, and the two patients in the second vehicle. 85-5, Rescue 85, and 85-00 arrived and assisted with traffic and scene lighting. One patient was priority 4 on scene and one patient was transported to Beebe for evaluation. Coastal Hwy was closed for several hours while DSP investigated. Units responding, 85-8, Engine 5, Rescue 85, 85-00, 85-11, DSP, DSFP, Medic 104, EMS 100.

Vehicle Accident Involving a Motorcycle

Crews handled this MVC involving a motorcycle on Harbeson Rd. Deputy-85 had The Milton Command.
