Assist Sta. 82

January 29, 2022

At 1732 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Lewes (82), Station 85, Rehoboth Beach (86) and Memorial (89) for a structure fire in the Paynters Mill subdivision in Lewes. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded within 2 minutes with Ladder 85 following close behind. Engine-Tanker 85 arrived on scene as the first due engine and stretched a handline to the front door. Crews found a fire contained to a dryer with no extension. Crews from Milton and Lewes removed the dryer and ventilated the structure. Command held the response to Engine-Tanker 85, Ladder 85, and the Lewes units. Crews remained on scene a few minutes assisting with ventilation and packing up before returning to Milton. Units responding from Milton, Engine-Tanker 85, Ladder 85, Engine 85-4.

Residential Structure Fire

January 28, 2022

At 1903 hours, just as crews were preparing for the impending blizzard, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77), Lewes (82), Georgetown EMS (93) and Sussex County EMS for a residential structure fire on West Shore Dr. in Wagamons West Shore. 85-8 responded immediately with Deputy Chief Millman, arriving on scene within two minutes to find a two story home with smoke showing and a possible attic fire. Engine 85-4 arrived a minute later and laid in from the closest hydrant. Engine 4s crew led off with the front bumper line. Crews from Engine 4 found a fire in the attic above an attached garage and extinguished same. Ladder 85 arrived next and threw both the aerial and ground ladders and completed ventilation. Crews from A-85 along with mutual aid crews from Ellendale completed primary and secondary searches. Remaining mutual aid crews assisted as needed with suppression and overhaul. Command placed the scene under control at 1946 hours turning it over to the fire marshal. No civilian or firefighters reported any injuries. Units responding, 85-8, 85-4, Ladder 85, 85-5, 75-3, 75-8, 75-6, 75-5, Tanker 77, Ladder 77, 82-2, 82-3, A-85, D-82, C-93, Medic 108, FM-17, Milton Police, DSFP, Milton Public Works.

Residential Fire

January 21, 2022

Today at 19:24 Milton Fire along with stations 75 (Ellendale), 82 (Lewes), and SCEMS were alerted for a residential fire on the 100 block of Bay Ave in Milton. At 19:26 Engine 85-4 and Truck-85 arrived to find a two story single family dwelling with smoke showing from division two on the "A" side. Engine 85-4 assumed to first due engine assignment with thier own hydrant. Truck-85 assumed the first due special. Crews from the engine strected one handline and found fire in the attic area. Crews from the truck completed searches on all divsions which were negative. 85-8 arrived and Assistant Chief B.Reynolds asummed 85 command. Crews from Ellendale and Lewes assited on scene with various fire ground duties. Units responding: 85-8, Engine 85-4, Truck-85, Engine 85-5, Engine 75-3, Engine/Tanker 75-8, Engine 75-5, Engine/Tanker 82-4, Engine 82-9, FM-16, A-85, A-89, SCEMS ME101, DSFP, MPD.

CO Detector Activation

January 20, 2022

At 1943 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a CO detector activation in the Hunters Mill development off of Rt. 9 in Harbeson. Engine-Tanker 85-2 and Ladder 85 responded. Captain Cranford (85-21) arrived on scene and established the command. Crews check the interior of the home and found no reportable readings. Command placed the scene under control and cleared all units. Units responding, 85-21, 85-8, 85-2, Ladder 85, DSFP.

Passing of Patsy Burton

All, it is with sincere regret that the Milton Fire Department Inc. informs you that Ladies Aux. member Patsy Burton passed away on 01/15/22 at home. Patsy has been a member of the auxiliary since 1976 and served as President and a few other offices over the years. Patsy had perfect attendance many times over the years and prided herself in always being there. We all know that she made our "sweet tea" (had to follow her recipe!!) famous and loved by everyone!! Patsy will never be forgotten - a true friend and leader for our organization. Please keep Ray and her extended family in your thoughts and prayers. Milton Signs Contract for New Engine

Tonight, President Reynolds and members of the Officers Core and Truck Committee met with Brian Bashista from Atlantic Emergency Solutions to sign a contract for our new engine. The engine will be a 2023 Pierce Saber with seating for six (6) firefighters, a 1500 G.P.M pump and a 1000 gallon water tank. Engine 85-3 will be known as the "Front Street Express" and delivery is expected in February of 2023.

At 1216 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Georgetown Fire Co. (77) and Station 85 for a residential structure fire at the intersection of Gravel Hill Rd. & Prettyman Rd. Chief Rogers (77-15) arrived first to find a single story home with heavy smoke showing. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived next and was assigned to fire attack. Additional units from Georgetown, Milton, Millsboro, and Ellendale assisted with fire attack, searches, overhaul, and water supply. Milton units remained on scene for several hours until released by 77 Command. Milton units responding, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Ladder 85, and Tanker 85. Memorial Fire Co. of Slaughter Beach (89) provided a cover up crew in Milton.

Vehicle Accident

Monday January 3rd just after the six o'clock hour Milton Fire Dept was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a tanker truck on Coastal Hwy. 85-8 arrived to find a vehicle vs tanker truck carrying approximately 8,000 gallons of gasoline with no fluid leaking. Engine 85-5 arrived and secured the vehicle under the tanker. 85 units remained on scene until the vehicle was safely removed from under to tanker. 85 command placed the scene under control and returned all units shortly after. Fire Chief Hopkins held 85 command.

Vehicle Accident

January 01, 2022

Just prior to the 8 o'clock hours, Station 85 was alerted for a vehicle accident with possible entrapment at the intersection of Lewes-Georgetown Hwy. & Hudson Rd. Captain Matt Cranford (85-21) who lives nearby arrived on scene within a minute to find a two vehicle accident with one patient heavily entrapped. Captain Cranford established command and requested an additional rescue company from Lewes Fire Dept. (82). Crews from Milton and Lewes extricated the patient to awaiting EMS providers at 0808 hours. Two patients were transported to Beebe Hospital. Crews remained on scene a short time assisting DSP with traffic and their investigation. Units responding, 85-21, Engines 85-4, 85-5, Rescue 85, 85-00, A-85, Engines 82-2, 82-9, Rescue 82, D-82, D-93, Medic 111, 104, EMS-100, DSP, DSFP, Milton Pd.

MVC with Entrapment

December 27, 2021

At 0739 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a MVC at the intersection of Rt. 1 and Rt. 16. Engine 85-4 and 85-8 responded within 3 minutes. Initial reports advised the accident was initially property damage only, but there is now someone who wants to be checked out. While responding, Sussex EOC advised DSP was on scene reporting one person trapped. Based on the report, Asst. Chief Millman (in 85-8) requested an additional Rescue from Sta. 82. Engine 4, 85-00 and 85-8 arrived to find a two vehicle MVC with one trapped. Engine 4s crew extricated the patient within two minutes of arrival and the 82 units were cancelled. B-85 along with Medic 111 transported one patient to Beebe. Units responding, Engine 4, Brush 85, Rescue 85, 85-8, B-85, DSFP, DSP.

County Bank Donation

Outbuilding Fire

Just after lunch time, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Ellendale (75), Lewes (82), and Memorial of Slaughter Beach (89) for an outbuilding on fire on Dunstan Ct. in Grants Way. Asst. Chief Millman (85-18) arrived to find a 12 x 20 shed with smoke showing. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived next and placed a crosslay in-service for extinguishment. Ladder 85 and 82-2 arrived next and assisted crews with extinguishment and overhaul. Crews remained on scene a short time before turning the scene over to the Fire Marshall. Units responding, 85-8, 85-2, Ladder 85, B-85, 82-2, 82-1, 75-3, 75-4, 89-5, Tanker 89, Medic 104, DSFP

Motor Vehicle Accident

December 04, 2021

At 1327, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85, Medic 111 and 208, and Trooper 2 for a MVC on Gravel Hill Rd. north of Webb Rd. Asst. Chief Millman (85-18) arrived on scene POV to find a pickup that struck a guard rail, then flipped into a pole bringing down several electric wires. B-85 arrived and treated a single patient who was out of the vehicle. Delaware Electric arrived and secured the electric to the downed wires, and the crew from Engine 85-4 and Rescue 85 secured the vehicle. B-85 transported ALS to Beebe, the fire units cleared a short time later.

Cape Henlopen Lady Vikings, State Field Hockey Champs

Today, the members of Milton and Lewes Fire Co. had the pleasure and honor to escort the new 2021 State Field Hockey Champions, the Lady Vikings, back to school from their victory. Congrats ladies, as always, its a pleasure.
