So We Did a Thing!!

Coming soon to Milton. Milton Fire Dept. has purchased a used ambulance from Mid Sussex Rescue Squad. Milton will be the third home of this unit as it was originally in-service with the Dagsboro Fire Department prior to serving with Mid Sussex. This ambulance will be used as a spare for our two in-service units until the arrival of our newly ordered unit sometime in late 2023 or early 2024. This unit will be known as "D-85". We will post more pictures once the unit is lettered and placed in-service.

Box Alarm Chimney Fire

March 12, 2023

At 1915, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Lewes (82), Rehoboth Beach (86), and Slaughter Beach (89) for a structure fire in the Cripple Creek subdivision off of Hudson Rd. 85-8 (Deputy Chief Millman) arrived at 1918 to find a single story residential with fire from the chimney. Engine 82-2 (staffed) arrived next and took the first due engine assignment. 82-2s officer (Lt. Hunsiker) reported a light smoke condition in the living area and stretched a handline. Engine-Tanker 85-2 arrived next and took the second due engine assignment. Crews form both units completed primary and secondary searches, and also checked for extension on the first floor and attic spaces. As crews were completing these tasks, Sussex EOC alerted for a box alarm just around the corner on Eagles Crest Rd. Command re-directed Engine 85-5, Rescue 85, and the balance of the Lewes and Rehoboth units to that alarm. Command held the response to Ladder 82, Tanker 85, and the units that were on scene. Crews operated for about an hour before turning the house over the homeowner and clearing.

Lucky Leprechaun 5K & St. Patty's Day Parade Standby

March 12, 2023

Today, the men and women of Station 85 maintained three ambulance crews, a gator crew, an engine crew, a dedicated command officer, and multiple fire police officers to cover the town for the Lucky Leprechaun 5K race and St. Patty's Day parade. The officers and members from Sta. 85 would like to also thank South Bowers Fire Company for providing "Squad 57" and a crew to standby and assist with coverage around the district while our members were committed to the events in town. We would also like to thank Bridgeville (72), Gumboro (79), Millsboro (83), Ellendale (75), Memorial (89), Lewes (82), and South Bowers (57) for providing fire police to assist with traffic control during the events, and the multiple police agencies from all over the State who provided security and traffic control for the event.

Multi Residential Structure Fire

March 09, 2023

Just prior to 4 o'clock, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Ellendale (75), Georgetown (77), Lewes (82), and Slaughter Beach (89) for a structure fire on S. Spinnaker Lane in Shipbuilders Village. Engine-Tanker 85-2 and 85-8 (Deputy Chief Millman) arrived to find a two story end of the row with nothing evident from the exterior. Engine-Tanker 2 laid in from the hydrant and their crew investigated. As command completed his 360, interior crews found a dryer and contents off in a utility room with some minor extension into the utility room. Engine 75-3 arrived and was assigned the delta exposure. Engine 82-2, Engine-Tanker 75-8, and Rescue 85 all arrived and assisted with searches and ventilation. Command scaled the incident back to the units on scene and returned the remainder of the box. Crews remained on scene a short while ventilating and assisting the homeowner. Crews Respond to a AFA

February 25, 2023

While members were attending their biannual EMT refresher, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a fire alarm sounding on Harbeson Rd. just outside of town. 85-8 with Asst. Chief Cranford responded along with Engine-Tanker 85-2. Crews arrived to find a light smoke condition in the building due to burnt food. Crews ensured no extension had taken place and naturally ventilated the building.

February 22, 2023

Crews from Milton responded to a report of a burning odor on Milton-Ellendale Hwy. Crews from Milton found an Exit sign that had some heat damage. Staff also found a seized motor on a HVAC unit. Crews from Milton remained on scene for about a half an hour. Deputy Millman had the Milton Command. Units responding, 85-5, 85-2, Rescue 85, Tanker 85, 85-8, B-85, DSFP.

House on Fire

February 21, 2023

At 0847 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Milton, Lewes (82), Georgetown (77), Rehoboth (86), Mid Sussex Rescue Squad (91), and Sussex County EMS for a house on fire on Martins Farm Rd. in Harbeson. Deputy Chief Millman arrived on scene to find a single story home with fire through the roof. Engine 82-2 arrived and took the first due engine assignment and began suppression efforts. Indian River Fire was called to assist on scene with a tanker and additional manpower. Units from Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth, Georgetown, and Indian River worked for about 30 minutes before bringing the fire under control. The State Fire Marshals office is investigating. Units responding, 85-2, 85-8, 85-5, Tanker 85, A-85, B-85, 82-2, Ladder 82, 82-9, 77-4, Tanker 77, Tanker 80, Brush 80, C-91, DSFP, DSFM. Millsboro Fire Company stood by at Station 3, providing a regional cover to the Lewes, Rehoboth, and Long Neck areas, while Ellendale Fire Company stood by at Station 85, covering the Milton and Georgetown area.

MVC Vehicle Into House w/Entrapment

February 04, 2023

Just after midnight, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Rescue Co. 82 (Lewes), Sussex County EMS (M-108), and the County Tech Rescue Team for a MVC with vehicle into a house with entrapment on Harbeson Rd. just outside of Milton. 85-8 responded and arrived on scene within three minutes to find a vehicle fully within a structure with one person trapped. Deputy Chief Millman immediately requested an additional Rescue Company (Georgetown) to assist. Crews from Engine 85-5, Rescue 82, Rescue 77, and the Tech Rescue Team extricated the patient within 18 minutes of arrival. Crews from the Tech Rescue Team secured the exposed wall of the residence. One patient was transported to Beebe. Units responding, 85-8, 85-5, Rescue 85, 85-2, 85-00, Rescue 82, 82-2, 82-3, Rescue 77, Medic 108, EMS 100, Tech Rescue 2, Tech Rescue 1, DSP, DSFP, Milton PD.

New Engine 85-3 Update

Update for this week, the pump for the new engine has arrive. It will not be long now before the truck goes on the assembly line.

Residential Fire

January 29, 2023

Milton Fire assisted Georgetown Fire with this residential fire. Engine 85-4 arrived as the second due engine and stretched a back up line through the bravo side. Rescue-85 arrived as the first due special and conducted a primary search which was negative. Crews worked for approx. one hour before clearing. Engine/Tanker 89-5 provided a cover up to Milton as crews operated.

Fire Prevention Awards

January 25, 2023

Milton Fire Department hosted their annual fire prevention awards ceremony on January 25th, 2023. This year we honored 52 students from HOB, MES, MMS and Delmarva Christian schools. The top 3 awards for each grade and school were given a medal, gift card and pizza party for their participation. Milton also had 9 students that were submitted to be judge at the county level. Eddie Pace from Mariner Middle placed first in Milton, first in Sussex County and third for the entire state. Congratulations to all the winners!

Assist Sta. 77

January 20, 2023

Just after lunch, Sussex EOC alerted Sta. 85 to assist Sta. 77 (Georgetown) with a brush fire off of Downs Rd. in Georgetown. Multiple units responded from Milton and assisted as needed on scene. Chief Rogers (77-15) had Command. Units responding from Milton, Engine 4, Engine 5, Brush 85, Tanker 85.

Vehicle Fire

January 17, 2023

Just prior to the o'clock hour, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 for a commercial vehicle fire on Union St. Extended just outside of Milton. Engine 85-4 and 85-8 arrived to find a dump truck with a fire in the engine compartment. Crews extinguished the fire with no extension to any other vehicles in the lot. Deputy Chief Millman had the Milton Command.

Serious MVC

December 30, 2022

Just prior to the 5 o'clock hours, Milton along with Sussex County EMS was alerted for a serious MVC on Martins Farm Rd. just off of Harbeson Rd. 85-8 arrived to find a single vehicle, heavily damaged with one occupant out and on the ground. Chief Millman assumed the Milton Command. Bystanders advised that two other patients fled and were bleeding. Ambulance 85 arrived along with Medic 111 and treated the patient on scene. That patient was transported to Beebe. Fire units arrived and secured the vehicle. Ambulance 82 responded and stood by on scene while Troopers searched the area for the additional occupants. None were found. Units responding 85-8, 85-5, Rescue 85, B-85, D-82, Medic 111, Medic 206, DSP, DSFP, Milton PD.
