At 0937 hours, the Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Ellendale (75), Lewes (82), and SCEMS Medic 104 for a chicken house fire on Zion Church Rd. just off of Broadkill Rd. 85 Command with Chief Clark (15) responded at 0942 and was advised by the EOC that they had received multiple calls. Chief Clark immediately requested an additional tanker company from Memorial (89) to the scene. Ambulance A-85 arrived on scene first at 0945 to find a chicken house partially on the ground. Chief Clark arrived next confirming the same and established Command. Engine 85-4 arrived shortly after and deployed attack lines to begin extinguishing the fire. Other units from Milton, Lewes, Ellendale, and Memorial arrived and were used for water supply and to supplement firefighting operations. Command placed the scene under control at 1119 hours with units clearing shortly after. Carlisle (42), Georgetown (77), Houston (52) and South Bowers (57) provided cover-ups throughout the incident. The cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshalls Office.
