Outside Fire Upgraded to Structure Fire

Just after 0400, Sussex ECC alerted Station 85 for an outside fire on Forest Rd. west of Cool Spring Rd.  Car 85 responded and was advised the rp stated she could see a ball of fire in the woods in the area.  While responding, Deputy Chief Millman noted a glow in the sky and a large column of smoke in the area and requested an addtional engine to the scene bringing Lewes (82) to assist.  Two minutes later, Deputy Chief Millman arrived and confirmed a residential structure fully involved with multiple exposures and requsted and upgraded box assignment.  Crews from Brush 85 and Squad 85 arrived concentrated on protecting exposures on both sides.  Engine 82 arrived and began fire attack.  Once additional units arrived, water supply was establshed and crews finished extinguishment.  The scene was placed under control relatively quickly, but units remained on scene for about 2 hours overhauling and hitting hot spots.  Units responding Car 85, Squad 85, Brush 85, Tanker 85, Engine 82-1, Engine 82-9, Rescue 82, Tanker 80, Engine 80, Ladder 77, B-91, D-91, Medic 111, Medic 206, FM-16, DSFP.
