Fire Marshall Institutes Burn Ban

Delaware State Fire Marshal News Release Contact: Michael G, Chionchio, Assistant State Fire Marshal, (302) 739-5665 Office, michael.Chionchio@delaware.gov October 15, 2024 State Fire Marshal John W. Rudd has ordered a Burning Ban beginning at 1600hrs today for all outdoor burning, as current conditions throughout the State of Delaware are extremely dry and pose a fire hazard. Effective immediately, the following are prohibited: Controlled burnings, including burning of leaves and yard waste. Agricultural burnings. Fires for land clearing. Fires for demolition and removal of hazards. Outdoor rubbish fires, whether or not contained. What is currently permitted: Campfires in areas cleared of all combustibles, surrounded by a non-combustible ring no larger than 3' x 3', and used for cooking only. Grills/hibachis in areas cleared of surrounding combustibles and used for cooking only. Carelessness with matches, discarded cigarettes, and vehicle exhausts are the most frequent causes for ignition of dry grass, mulch, and other landscape materials. State Fire Marshal Rudd asks that all persons properly dispose of cigarettes and matches and avoid parking on or near dry leaves and grass. All persons are requested to cooperate in an attempt to reduce the danger of fire that threatens our State. Milton Christmas Parade

October 14, 2024

Milton Fire Department will hold the annual Christmas Parade on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7PM. The parade lineup will be in the "New Development" off of Atlantic Ave. The parade will step off at the corner of Atlantic Ave. & Union St. and proceed South through the center of town, turning onto Federal St. and proceeding out to the Milton Elementary School where it will end. Volunteer Recruitment

Delaware is launching a new campaign to get more volunteer firefighters as the state deals with declining numbers. Some of Delaware’s 60 plus companies are even offering to let some firefighters live in the firehouse. Tim Furlong explains the desperate situation and the race to get more bodies on the firetrucks.
