Box Alarm for the Working Trailer Fire - Pettyjohn Rd. Box Alarm for the Working Trailer Fire - Pettyjohn Rd.
Sunday, November 20, 2016
At 0735 this morning, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85, along with Georgetown (77), Lewes (82) and Sussex County EMS (108) for a trailer fire on Pettyjohn Rd. just West of Harbeson Rd. Chief JR Clark arrived on scene shortly after dispatch to find a 14' x 70' trailer with heavy fire showing and a patient in the driveway. Engine 85-4 arrived next and placed two hand lines in-service to begin extinguishment. Engine 85-5 arrived next and placed an additional hand line in-service to assist the crew of Engine 4. Engine 85-3 set up water supply to Engine 5, and Tanker 85, along with multiple 77 units established water supply for Engine 4. After questioning the patient found in the yard, units quickly realized this fire may have been a result of a police action. Multiple police units converged on the area in search of the suspect. Police officers on scene worked hand in hand with the fire units to ensure the immediate area was safe for the firefighters to work. One patient was transported to Beebe by Ambulance 85, and one firefighter was checked on scene and refused transport by Ambulance 82. The fire was quickly knocked by the 85 and 77 crews, and the response was scaled back to those units, with Command sending one engine from 82 to a cover up. The scene is under investigation by the State Fire Marshalls Office and the Delaware State Police.
